Locks of Love and Lost!

One of my favourite bloggers, Liz Thompson of This Full House, has four amazing children- Thing One, Thing Two, Little Man and Mini-Me. Recently, Thing Two cut off ten inches of her hair for Locks of Love. To directly quote Liz,

Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disabled children 18 years and younger suffering form long-term medical hair loss. They meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses they provide restore self-esteem and ocnfidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

Now, Thing Two is only a few years younger than me- I can't imagine having the guts to do what she did at her age. Nor would I have done what Sam did, cutting her hair very very short for cancer. Honestly, I don't want to get mushy here, because hello? I kinda want to make you guys laugh, not bawl your eyes out, but I really admire these two people for what they have done- and I hope to do that at some point in my lifetime- in fact, Sam's promised to do it again, and we'll do it together!

Also, go visit Liz' blog- I swear, your heart must be made of stone if your heart doesn't melt at the sight of Mini-Me sporting a self-induced mohawk.

Ok, so onto a new topic: to my fellow Lost-watchers- the finale was awesome, but I have composed the following short letter to the producer of the show, J.J. Abrams:

Dearest J.J.,

So I have to admit- that was a damn good finale-mostly. It was much better than some of the previous shows, the ones mid-lateish season? I forgive you though, I understand that you had to makeM:I3 extrasapecial, you know, since good ol' Tom over there wasn't exactly helping publicity and all. The explanation of the electromagnetic field was pretty good- much simpler than I expected. I really hope Mr. Eko didn't die- he was interesting. And thank god you didn't kill off Charlie- how would I live without my favourite hobbit buddy slash ex-heroine addict? The dreams were pretty scary though- I was REALLY freaked out when Ana Lucia appeared and then started bleeding out of her FACE....and what's his name, Mr. Eko's dead friend? That was scary as hell as well. (Wait, I don't think that was the finale, but still).

The only thing I have to really say something about is the storyline with my favourite characters- Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Now I really don't think that you would kill them off, as they play a huge part in the show, and I don't think you would kill three of your msot interesting characters. BUT I can't believe I have to wait four more months to see how that turns out!!Also, I would really like Kate to end up with Jack, even though Sawyer is way hot- could you put in a good word with your writers please?

Finally, could something good please happen to Hurley for once? I felt very bad for him when Michael killed Libby just please please PLEASE do NOT bring Libby back as a bloody corpse....that was scary enough with Ana Lucia, plus I don't think that would count as a good thing for Hurley.

Keep up the good work!

Love,

Natalie and Petey

p.s. Petey says he would like to see more of Vincent/Madison on the show.

(To my regular visitors- I'm really sorry I haven't written in so long, but I have had a pretty hectic week- I promise there will be at least two more posts coming in the next few days)

Mall Time Ups and Downs

Sometimes it really surprises me how people will react to Petey and I in public places. A lot of times we get people coming up to us with views that are polar opposites, and today we had both happen within seconds of each other.

My family and my friend and I went to Vaughan Mills today; I had to get an outfit for my cousin's wedding next week. There were a LOT of kids there today for some reason, even more than usual. At first there was a lot of pulling, but Petey settled down pretty nicely. I find that while he can get very crazy around adults, jumping, etc., he really knows how to behave with kids, especially with toddlers-maybe he thinks he's one of them :P

Anyways...today, while me and Petey were waiting outside a shop for my parents to come out, these two little kids started screaming to Petey. They were screaming (very very loudly) "HI DOGGY! HI DOGGY!" And I thought that was annoying- it got worse quickly. They quickly approached and crouched right in front of him taunting and teasing him. They would reach out their hands to pet him (without permission) and would scream shrilly and run away when he moved. To Petey's credit, he only tried jumping twice. After a minute or so of this, I got VERY annoyed and was looking around for their parents- I located their mother a few feet away just watching her daughters behave like this, screaming loudly and not behaving well at all. My six month old puppy was behaving better than these 7 0r 8 year olds. So I just walked away and they didn't follow.

I sat down on a nearby bench, being angry, when less than a minute later, I noticed an elderly lady standing a bit away, explaining to her granddaughter what a dogguide was. We smiled at each other, and I could hear a bit of what she was saying. "When this dog grows up, he is going to be very special and help someone". I cheered up considerably and that is when a security guard walked up to me. "Excuse me, is this dog a special one?" I thought of the many possibilities I could answer back with but just said "Yes, he is in training to be a dog guide". So she said okay and left. Right after that, the elderly woman and her granddaughter approached. The woman asked me what the security guard had said to me, and I told her. She responded with "Why would she ask that? Of course he is special! He even has his jacket on!" I just laughed in response, but really? That was exactly what I needed.

I know it sounds like such a small thing, but it really made my day.

Backyard Escapades Part II

Yesterday, Petey and Hailey had another play in our backyard. This time, though, I nearly had a heart attack- twice. The puppies were really hyper for some reason and they were tearing around the yard faster than usual.

Now some of you may remember when the two puppymonsters dug a hole under the fence that separates my house and Hailey's people's house (That's why I keep him on his Flexi in the backyard- in case he escapes under the hole and to the busy road through their backyard). Well Petey was running around really quickly, when he all of a sudden careened towards the laundry pole in the middle of the yard, scraped his leash against it, and his COLLAR SNAPPED OFF. So there I was frantically running after him, and thank god he was good for once and stayed still for me to catch him and snap his collar back on.

Okay, so they started running around again. Less than a minute, later, the same thing happens! This time, not so co-operative. I have to hang onto him by the scruff of his neck while my friend had to put his collar on. This time I wasn't taking any chances....I locked the Flexi with about 6 inches of slack so I could control where he went.

The good news though, is that he had a great time playing with Hailey and he was very gentle to the year-old baby next door who was petting him.

p.s. This still totally is not a Lost blog, but Jenny! Karla! Amy! Karla's sister from Alaska! Was last night's episode not REALLY REALLY GOOD?? I still can't believe Libby died, I thought she would live! And i felt so bad for Hurley, now who's going to go out with him? (I heard that 'Libby' probably quit/written off because she signed on with another show)
And also, who screamed *out loud* at least three times? Umm...that would be me. It was totally freaky when (1) Ana Lucia's ghost appeared and started bleeding, (2) When the ghost of that priest appeared and (3) when Libby waws supposedly dead and then spat up a fountain of blood. I was so scared to sleep last night, I kept thinking about Ana Lucia's ghost appearing. AHH!
Can't wait til next week's episode!!!

Spring Concert!

On Monday and Tuesday, my school had its annual Spring Concert. We have brand new teachers this year so we weren't sure what our year would be like in September. But everything has turned out very well and my class and the department as a whole has improved so much. We've gotten new techniques, new instruments, and pretty much a whole new philosophy towards music itself.

Our concert this year went very well and one of the two bands I'm in, the senior concert band even got standing ovations both nights.

The Tuesday concert was a bit more special than the Monday one though, because that's the one my family came to. Also, Sam came out to watch me as well! Although our plan for her to be allowed to bring either Calvin and Patience didn't work out, we still had a sleepover after, so it was all good. Well, except for the sleeping at 12 then waking up at 6:45 part. Don't feel too bad for me though, I had a short nap in religion class.

Since three of my best friends and I are on Band Council, we got medals to wear during the concert!

Look at our pretty white blouses and kilts that are NOT any shorter than three inches above the knee.

They were both great nights, the highlights of this school year. I can't wait til next year, when it will be better than ever, though it will be bittersweet, my last year at the school.
